Looking to upgrade your skills for a better job with your current employer? We do that!
Eagle Nest Enterprises is NOT a state sanctioned higher education training institution, and we do NOT grant career school diplomas. Our target market is NOT people looking to break into a new career, but those who are upgrading their driving skills for a better job with their current agricultural employer with a commercial driver’s license (CDL) . If your employer requires a state sanctioned career school diploma, we are NOT for you. Please verify with your employer what is needed before you train with us. We are a specialty contract training company specializing in upgrading farm endorsed drivers to full CDL drivers to address insurance and liability concerns. As a result of what you do with us, you will be prepared to pass your DMV tests and competently pass your tests to get your CDL. What we do a very narrow portion of the requirements of the new federally mandated Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) until you are competent in under 16 hours. You do the theory written portion of the class through any independent, non-dictated accredited web based distance learning software as a prerequisite. Then you get out with our driver trainer and learn the public road skills until you are judged competent to take the test with the state’s 3rd party tester.
Everything Our CDL Training Includes:
- We teach class A and B vehicles. Our truck, or yours! Flatbeds for hay hauling, boxes for general farm commodities.
- Our training vehicles are both air brake with manual and automatic options.
- If you train in our vehicles, you can test in our vehicles! Testing is local.
- Over 32 years experience operating commercial vehicles
- All driving training is done one-on-one with best education practices
- State licensed Technical educator with current teaching license.
- Learner centered instruction delivered in maximum effective 2- hour blocks.
How long is your CDL Training?
While we can’t say exactly how long it will take you to achieve “competence”, we have seen a range of three hours for experienced farm endorsement holders, to a high of 16 hours for very little car driving experience. Average is coming in at 15 hours as of April 2022. Note that we are not counting your CDL Online theory class in our totals, nor the amount of time you spend watching youtube’s helpful pre-trip training videos. We keep our billable training hours low by assigning homework and background on your own time. Anything we are not charging you for does not count toward our 16 hour cap. We encourage you to continue to drive with your employer on the farm between our sessions too.
Step-By-Step CDL Training
Our program step by step:
- Get Oregon CDL Driver’s manual, available as .pdf or print.
- Contact ENE and get our recommendation for third party Web based ELDT software. We have some favorites, but you’re on your own to choose one. We do not count this time in our training program since we do not perform the training.
- Get your DOT physical completed. We have a recommendation in our area, www.donives.com, but your are on your own to choose. We don’t count the time to do this in our training program. (~$100)
- Pass your Oregon DMV CDL permits completed and permit issued. (~$125) We don’t include this time in our training program.
- Contact Caroline at (503)502-7839 to get driving time booked.
- Finish ELDT software online. We have to check whether it is done before the state’s 3rd party tester can schedule you. That’s the only reason we need to know, not so we can include it in our training hours.
- Drive until competent and the ELDT skills inventory is complete. (~under $3000)
- Caroline will schedule your 3rd party test when you have ELDT, Range time, and Driving completed and signed off.
- Pass the drive test with state sanctioned 3rd party testing service. (~$240 to them, ENE truck fee $330 ) We don’t include this time in our training.
- Get license issued at DMV (~$150) We don’t include this time in our training either.
